This actually happened in June, but I keep forgetting to blog about it. One day Rae Ann brought us some Power Ranger party supplies she found at D.I. We were grateful, but the problem is, none of our kids are really into Power Rangers enough to want a Power Ranger birthday party. So we decided to just have our own little party! :)
That Saturday, we woke up, got our housework done, got the yard work done, and I sent Matt to the store to get BBQ supplies and dessert while I figured out how we were going to do this. All we had was a “Pin the Badge on the Power Ranger” poster, plates, napkins, masks and temporary tattoos. How were we going to have a party with 5 people with just that?
The solution: Make a backyard Power Ranger Training Camp obstacle course!
We ate our dinner and then got the Power Ranger Trainees masked up and ready to go! First obstacle:
The Egg Walk
Rules: Each Power Ranger in Training was given a spoon and an egg. The object of the obstacle is to walk with the egg resting in the spoon from the designated starting point, to the next obstacle without dropping or touching the egg.
Second Obstacle:
Pin The Badge on the Power Ranger
Rules: Each Power Ranger in Training was to be blindfolded, handed a badge, spun in circles and pointed toward the Power Ranger poster. The Power Ranger Trainee was then to try to place the badge closest to the proper location on the Power Ranger.
Third Obstacle:
THE LAVA ESCAPE
Rules: Each Power Ranger in Training is to jump from one stepping stone to the next avoiding the lava below. They are then to climb the ladder onto the “island” and slide down the slide to safety!
Fourth and Final Obstacle:
Stealthy Chair Crawl
Rules: Each Power Ranger in Training is to crawl through the bottom portion of 2 folding chairs placed in a row. They are to accomplish this without touching the sides of the chairs. A coin is to be balanced on the top part of the chair and will fall alerting the Training Camp Personnel in case of a “Breach of Contact”.
The success rate of this particular Power Ranger Training Camp was 75%! Each trainee that passed was given a Power Ranger tattoo to positively identify their “Honorary Power Ranger” status.
(Despite the look on Riley’s face, he was happy. He just had no idea what the heck I was doing to his arm, and he wasn’t thrilled with the fact that he had to stand in the same place for 15 seconds.)
As for the trainee that didn’t pass:
We had to send the rescue dog to save him.
It’s ok Mattie.. Maybe next time.
